Bradley At Bancaja Aspar Team Launch
At 7pm last night the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum in Valencia played host to the official presentation of the Aspar Team for 2010, the 30th anniversary season of the Spanish team. For Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ it was not just a team presentation but the culmination of a dream, as he prepares to launch a triple assault on the World Championship, with riders in every category. This dream would remain an impossible one if it weren’t for the close and continued collaboration of the team’s 125cc sponsor Bancaja.
Following a gala to celebrate the anniversary of Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ and his racing project masters of ceremony Ainhoa Arbizu and Valentín Requena moved on to the official presentation of the Bancaja Aspar, who begin their defence of the 125cc World Championship title in 11th April in Qatar. Nico Terol and Bradley Smith lined up alongside the all-conquering Aprilia RSA that they both hope will take them to ultimate glory in 2010, repeating the feat of Julian Simón for the Bancaja Aspar Team in 2009. Sebastián Ruiz, Marketing Director for Bancaja, and Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ then joined the pair on stage.
Sebastián Ruiz:
“Bancaja supports motorcycle racing because it has an important association with young people and they form a fundamental part of our business. For the last four seasons we have given our backing to Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’, not because he is from Valencia but because he is the best, and Bancaja always aims to give its clients the best.”
Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’:
“Seeing such a large, competitive and tight team is in many ways the tip of the iceberg of what we have achieved over the last thirty years – three decades of non-stop growth. I hope that we are battling to retain the title in 125, I’d also like to be fighting to win it Moto2, even though it is a new category, and in MotoGP it would be great if we could finish in the top ten at the end of the year. Either way, we are very excited by this wonderful project that we are carrying forward.”
Bradley Smith:
“This is a very special event and also quite revealing. It has made me realise that I am getting older because this is going to be my fifth season in the World Championship already. As part of a team like this I feel a moral obligation to achieve my objectives and to be challenging at the very top – for Jorge and for Bancaja, who do an incredible job to make sure that we have the best possible material. Last year I was in touching distance of the title but I am back stronger than ever and I will be trying everything I can to do it this time. Hopefully I can be fighting for it with Nico.”
