Scott Redding Looks Back On Tough Mugello Race

Whilst Hector Faubel gave the Marc VDS Racing Team another points scoring finish, with a hard fought race to 12th place in the Italian Moto2 Grand Prix, Scott Redding was not so fortunate, dropping down to 21st position at the chequered flag after suffering knee and dehydration problems in the extremely hot conditions.

Redding got a lightning start from 28th place on the grid, moving rapidly through the field and up to 15th place early on in the race. The 17-year-old Briton managed to maintain station after a near-collision forced him to run wide, but then started to struggle with a painful knee problem. This, coupled with dehydration in the extremely hot conditions, caused Redding to fade, eventually dropping him back to 21st place at the chequered flag.

Scott Redding #45 – 21st Position

“I got a pretty good start and managed to make up quite a few places in the early stages of the race, but then I got pushed wide by a rider coming up my inside and lost a lot of ground. I picked off a few more places once I got going again, but then I started struggling with a really bad pain in my knee. I had a similar problem at Le Mans, but it wasn’t half as bad as it was today. I also lost a little bit my concentration; it was hot out there today and I think I just got dehydrated in the conditions. Sure, I’m disappointed because points were a possibility, but my main concern now is to find out what causes the pain in my knee before Silverstone. All I know is that it’s not a problem of injury, as I’ve never injured it before.”

Michael Bartholemy: Team Manager

“Scott started well, moving up to 15th in the early stages, but then faded badly as he started to have problems with his knee. He was also pretty dehydrated towards the end. Obviously we need to find out what’s causing the knee problem for Scott, but he also needs to improve his preparation ahead of races. I hope that we can get everything sorted before the next race at Silverstone, which is an important one for Scott in front of his home crowd.”
