Coghlan heading stateside to race AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike again
Kev Coghlan is still keeping busy in the racing world, heading to the USA again on Wednesday to prepare for his next appearance in the AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike Championship at New Jersey.
He will again be competing with Aussie Dave Racing, with whom he has an impressive track record, considering he has only done two “fly by” races – 5th in the Daytona 200 last year and 7th in the curtailed Laguna Seca round this year. In the latter he was heading for a possible podium if not for the race being red-flagged twice, so Kev is hoping for the chance to do even better this weekend.
As we reported earlier, Kev is not giving up on finding a new ride to get back into the world championship as soon as possible. Since returning from Laguna Seca after the MotoGP race weekend, Kev has been in Spain, maintaining contacts on the Moto2 circuit and looking for a new signing. Unfortunately nothing new has come up yet, but with a number of personnel changes in the past few weeks in the Moto2 class and many contracts now being up for renewal towards the end of the season he is hopeful an opportunity may be just round the corner.
Looking at the results of his former team since his departure still stands as a good advertisement for his talents. Despite handling difficulties, having to test several different chassis versions and riding injured for a good part of his time with the Aeroporto Castello team, he scored 11 points in six races, with a highest finishing position of eighth at Silverstone. But since his departure the team has seen two DNFs and never been higher place than 29th in qualifying or racing.
Fans of Kev can also follow his further racing endeavours on Twitter and also this weekend live timing of practice and race are available on the AMA official website.
