Disappointing qualifying for Rogers, McPhee and Ryan at Albacete
KRP riders John McPhee and Fraser Rogers left the Albacete circuit after today’s CEV Moto3 qualifying sessions determined to make progress in round five of the championship tomorrow.
The Racing Steps Foundation riders went into this morning’s session with the joint expectation of building on the impressive pace they showed at the previous week’s test at the Spanish circuit but finished disappointed. The pair ended the day’s first session – which turned out to be the quicker of the two – down in 13th and 10th places on the timesheet just under one to one and a half seconds off the pace of pole winner and championship leader Alex Marquez.
While Monlau’s Marquez and Andalucia Cadiz rider Marcos Ramirez both broke into the 1m 33s bracket to lock out the front row with Albert Arenas, Rogers only managed to sneek below the 1m 35s barrier by the skin of his teeth with a best time of 1m 34.915s. McPhee, whose session was interrupted by an electrical glitch, fared less well posting a best lap of 1m 35.355s.
Only CEV rookie Wayne Ryan – one of just five riders to post faster times in the ‘slower’, sweltering second session – bettered his test best with a time of 1m 35.597s to land 17th place on the combined timesheet.
Rogers shares a row four start with Luca Amato and Julian Miralles while McPhee starts from the row behind alongside Julian Miralles and round one race winner Philipp Ӧttl. Ryan lines up with Josep Rodriqguez and Fausto Granton on row six.
